Pride Ruins Everything

Bevyn, the most ambitious warrior among the Tahran Royal Guard

I wanted to take some time and bring up a topic that's been on my mind for a while.

Pride ruins everything.

It's something I've seen both in others and myself over the years. Most creative people often struggle with pride.

When you work hard to make something beautiful, you're often tempted to think about yourself.

"Look at what I made!"

"That came from me!"

"I bet no one else could do what I did!"

Any of these sound familiar? These are the whispers we are often fed when we are part of the creative process.

When we create, we work with The Creator to make something beautiful, something full of life.

We all do this in some capacity. It can be a painting, a novel, a shelf, a garden, or even a newborn child.

In all these examples, we put a little bit of ourselves into what we're doing, but we're not totally responsible for the end result.

The creative process happens through us and not from us.

I didn't give myself the ability to write. I didn't supply myself with the hands, feet or mind to build a fence.

All of the good things that come from us can only come from one who is good; and there is none good but God.

The Enemy, however, will try and convince you that you did it all. That you're the man! (Or woman)

Have you ever known someone who really excelled at something they did? And then fall when they got arrogant?

That's because “pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”

So how do we avoid pride when we work?

Simple. We work for others and not for ourselves.

Let our work be an offering, a service to one another.

My upcoming novel, for example, is not for myself, but for all of you.

It is my hope that you all can find truth or inspiration in it. Or, at the very least, find it entertaining.

And that all the glory goes to God.

God Bless,

Matthew

P.S.: What are your thoughts on pride? Do you have ways of fighting it in your own life. If you reply down below; I'd love to hear your feedback!
